Corrections officers face a variety of communication challenges and the bottom line is that safety is paramount so technology solutions may be more involved. They must be able to communicate with residents in less than optimum listening environments. Trying to hear clearly in a large room with concrete walls is difficult. Reverberation and poor room acoustics coupled with many people talking in the background is an especially challenging situation. Traditional solutions for personal amplifiers and neckloop or headphone listening options pose personal safety issues. Personal, wireless FM technology is needed in many of these situations. The other issues of being aware of surroundings and the ability to hear radio communications are discussed in this report. |
