How to Explain the Silent Call System

Printer-Friendly Format

The Silent Call Sidekick System is widely used and easy to set-up. These are the standard components and we'll discuss each item by part number. This system is often used when smoke detector alerting is needed because it is a complete system. It is also used if there are overhead lights or few existing lamps available.

The Silent Call system has a weather radio and carbon monoxide tester. There are no other systems that offer all these emergency alerting devices.

The Silent Call Sidekick System operates on the 318 MHz frequency which gives about 100 ft. operating range.

SC-SK2REC

The Sidekick II receiver has a strobe light. It has colored indicator lights across the front of the unit. This receiver has a built-in alarm clock. A phone signaler is also built-in but it is for the receiver only (it doesn't transmit to other receivers).

The receiver simply plugs into the wall, usually in the bedroom. The strobe light will flash when it receivers a signal from one of the transmitters. The optional bedshaker can be used to cause vibration to occur.

SC-SKREC

The Receiver has a strobe light on it and indicator lights across the front that are different colors. The receiver simply plugs into the wall, usually in the bedroom and the living room/kitchen areas. The strobe light will flash when it receives a signal from one of the transmitters (sound, phone, door or fire). If the optional bedshaker has been ordered, plug it into the receiver. When the bedshaker is plugged in, the strobe light doesn't work.

SC-TELTR

The Telephone transmitter plugs into or shares a phone outlet. When the phone rings, the Receiver strobe light will flash about 12 times and the light on front of the panel will light up. There is a test button on the transmitter so you can test it without the phone actually ringing. It uses a 9V battery.

SC-WDBTR

The wireless Doorbell transmitter button attaches to the door frame with velcro or screw. You can press the doorbell button and the receiver strobe light will flash about 12 times and the light on front of the panel will light up.

SC-DBTR

The Doorbell transmitter for the existing doorbell chime fastens directly on the chime box. You pull off the chime box and there are 3 screws marked in the box. The instructions tell you which 2 screws to attach the transmitter wires to. You cannot get electrocuted while hooking this up. It is safe. After you connect the wires, you put the chime box cover back on and lay the transmitter on top of the box. When you ring the existing doorbell, the receiver strobe will flash about 12 times and the light on front of the panel will light up.

SC-SDTR

The Smoke Detector has a built-in transmitter. If the smoke detector is activated, both the audible alarm will sound and a signal will be sent to the receiver. This smoke detector should be placed outside the bedrooms in the hallway. There are recommended placement guidelines printed in the smoke detector's instructions. The smoke detector only needs 1 9V battery which can be placed in either slot. To test the smoke detector, you will need to press the test button. You must press the button and count to 20 slowly. You'll hear the audible alarm almost immediately, but the test button activates the transmitter signal a few seconds later.

The new Silent Call 'Signature Series" operates on the 418 MHz frequency which gives about 2000 ft. operating range. This extended range is considerable and makes the system more useful for facilities as well as people with larger homes. All of the Signature Series item numbers have "/SS" in the item description.
